Apologies that this blog is becoming a tad Norwegiacentric. I hadn't actually planned posting this video, but then today I discovered that this song is BBC Radio 2's record of the week this week. This is slightly strange as the song was a hit in Norway in early 2009. But better late than never, eh?
Tone Damli (she's dropped the second part of her surname, Aaberge, for international ease - although listening to Zoe Ball on Radio 2 today it hasn't helped much) took part in Norwegian Idol in 2005, where she finished second. This had more to do with her good looks than her extraordinary vocal talents. But nothing new there really.
Tone has released four albums in five years, and has become one of Norway's biggest selling artists. Her new album in Norway, the curiously titled Cocool, was out this week, and is an excellent batch of easy-going pop songs, more of which some other time.
The single about to take the UK by storm (ahem, we'll see!), is Butterflies. It would have been Norway's entry into Eurovision 2009 if it hadn't been for a certain young man with a fiddle.
Norwegian Eurovision rejects don't often make it to the Radio 2 playlist, so yay for Tone! Which, by the way, should be pronounced to rhyme with Jonah. Well, roughly anyway. :)
