Getting some

It's three years since Swedish singer Lykke Li debuted, and now it's time for the "difficult second album". That is yet to come, but the first single Get Some bodes very well indeed. It has a somewhat dark and disturbing feel to it, musically, but in a good way. And I'm sure the lyrics could be analysed in all kinds of ways. But any song that opens "Don't pull your pants before I go down" has to be worth a listen. Not to mention the hook "I'm your prostitute, you're gonna get some." OK, so maybe there isn't that much to analyse!

A few words

Not many words today, but a couple of nice Icelandic tunes :-)

Family man

Here's a slice of Swedish electropop for you. Familjen, whose real name is the less exotic Johan Karlsson, released his second album, Mänskligheten (Humanity), earlier this year. Here is the latest single, Det var jag (It was me) - the video of which is an intriguing if somewhat odd affair.

Ummi

I don’t know a lot about Icelandic singer Ummi. Not even his real name. But he has released what appears to be his debut, self-titled solo album this year, having released an album in the mid 90s with a band called Sólstrandargæjarnir. He has lived in Copenhagen, but is now based in London where he works in animation. So he’s a creative soul it seems.

As for the music, well it’s kind of laid-back and folksy, even a bit jazzy in places. I imagine would sound particularly cool on a hot summer day in the park. But it’s dark and cold outside, so will have to wait six months to see if that’s true.

The mysterious man is nowhere to be found on youtube or myspace, so here are a couple of sound files courtesy of gogoyoko: Svefnleysi (Insomnia) and Ef þú þekkir mig ekki (If you don’t know me).
